Superconducting magnet R&D for accelerators is inherently a multi-stage process, spanning several disciplines, changing teams of experts, and software tools that are updated or replaced along the way. With projects running from several years to several decades, the numerical models, the construction and validation data, and the tools themselves need a consistent and sustainable organisation. The project solves that problem of sustainability and consistency in tool and model development, while fostering innovation by giving the participating institutes maximum flexibility and room to cooperate.
