Joep L. Van den Eijnden has been awarded first prize in the Jan Evetts Award for the paper “A Multiscale Modeling Framework for Accelerator Magnets Accounting for Fabrication-Induced Deformation and Operational Strain in Nb₃Sn Rutherford Cables.” Selected as the best paper in this year’s Jan Evetts collection of Superconductor Science and Technology, the work presents a multiscale modelling framework that connects the fabrication-induced deformation of Nb₃Sn Rutherford cables with their mechanical response and operational strain in accelerator magnets.
The paper was led by Joep L. Van den Eijnden and co-authored by Xiang Kong, Douglas Araujo, Bernhard Auchmann, André Brem, Theo A. Tervoort, Anna Kario, Simon Otten, Jürg Leuthold and Jasmin Smajic. The award, which recognises outstanding work by an early-career researcher in superconductivity, was announced during the Applied Superconductivity Conference 2026 in Pittsburgh.
